The final club cruise of the season is planned for Saturday 12 September. (Sorry to say that Covid 19 measures have meant that this is also only the second cruise.) Participants should meet at the Club at 10:30 for a 10:50 briefing and 11:00 launch. This is a picnic event and everyone should bring a packed lunch to enjoy on the beach.
While we want to encourage participation, this is an event suitable for experienced and very confident intermediate level sailors. The voyage out of Swanage Bay and round Old Harry can involve a long beat to windward in one direction and encountering rough water off the Old Harry stacks. Effective safety cover is difficult to provide as the fleet gets spread out over a larger distance than when we sail in the bay. Crews need to be aware of these conditions, confident of their ability and to look out for each other. As many boats as possible should carry radios. Those wishing to participate should sign up on the Organised Sailing 2020 Google Sheet
The organisers will be keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecast in the days leading up to the cruise and on the conditions as they are on the day. If conditions are not considered suitable then the cruise will be cancelled or restricted to a destination inside the bay.
