Swanage Sailing Club re-opens – under RYA Covid guidelines

Dear Member

Following the announcement that Dorset will be in Tier 2 at the end of Lockdown on Wednesday 2 December, we are pleased to announce the re-opening of Swanage Sailing Club.

Unrestricted access to boats can resume, as well as unescorted sailing. Members are asked to follow the published RYA guidance [click here] to be conservative and consider their personal and crew’s sailing ability, their equipment, and all the forecast and actual conditions before deciding to sail, as any rescue will bring unwelcome and added risks to those services.

Beyond single household and bubble, 2m social distancing ashore should be maintained. If breaching 1 metre social distancing within a boat, and for further clarification, members should follow the guidance within RYA Risk assessment for sailing with participants from different households [click here] and employ additional mitigations as appropriate. High risk individuals should not participate.

All individuals entering the club should practise good hand hygiene and wear a mask, unless exempted or being served food and drink, changing, showering, or the only person in that room.  A maximum of 8 in each changing room is set.

Members are asked still to arrive changed and to shower at home if possible, as at present the guidance is for essential use of changing rooms only, eg if unable to change discretely and traveling wet would risk hypothermia or damaging the car.

It is hoped to open the galley, to single household groups only, for meals on 6, 13 and 20 December. Bar service will be available only to those having meals. Please support this service by coming or by volunteering to help (contact Greg Vaughn via: webmaster@swanagesailingclub.org.uk) . There will be no service during the Christmas fortnight break.

Christmas decorations are being put up but we ask members, please, not to leave cards in the clubhouse for others this year. Although a long running practice, the mandated cleaning protocols make this practice impossible this year.

Thank you… and as we approach the Christmas break, we send all members, families and friends, all best wishes.
