Studland – South Beach Cruise – Saturday 8th September

The last planned cruise of the year ! Ah

Tides and weather ( at present ) look favourable for a pleasant cruise to South Beach and picnic lunch on Saturday 8th September.

High water Swanage 08.11 2.1m & 12.13 , 1.9m Low Water Swanage 15.17 0.7m so gentle assistance on the way out and more helpful on the way back.

Weather showing on the BBC at 13mph

This cruise is for competent sailors in suitable boats , safety boat cover will not be provided .
Suggested additional equipment if you have them : VHF radios , anchors and those who consider them useful outboard motors. Not forgetting the all important picnic – the most stylish we have seen this year has be presented by Wendy &

Graham Bobbit – current leaders in the plastic picnic plate trophy.

Meet at the sailing club for a 10.30 briefing with the view to set sail at 11.00 , returning around 3ish , hoping to have the bar open an opportunity to regale those stories and eventful moments of this cruises.

Would you please email or reply on Facebook of your interest in taking part in the final planned cruise of 2018.

Rollo’s last journey

On Saturday, 4th August at 11:00hrs Rollo’s family will be leaving Buck Shore (SSC) to sail to the center of Swanage Bay to lay Rollo’s ashes to rest in the sea after which returning to the Swanage Sailing Club where the bar will be open from approx 12:00 to 13:00hrs to toast Rollo crossing the bar (see attached)

Three RIBs have been arranged, each manned by Social Sailors who often sailed in the company of Rollo.

The family are hopefully that many of those who knew and sailed with Rollo will form a flotilla with their own dinghies and accompany Rollo on his last journey and gather in the bar afterwards.

Please move boats and kayaks on rack B by 5pm 17th July.

As many Sailing Club members will know, our neighbours Swanage Pier have been refurbishing Marine Villas.

As part of the process they are updating their power supplies and as part of that job they need to dig 2 holes in our boat park. These will be 1m square and are under Rack B at the back of the club. In order for this to be done we need to remove all boats and kayaks and move the rack away from the wall behind.

So what I’m asking is

A – if you have any kayaks locked to the rack please remove the lock by 5 pm Tuesday 17th.

B – if you are unhappy about others moving your kayaks or dinghies move them before 5 pm on Tuesday, store in the car park.

C – if you can make it to the club at 5 pm Tuesday, to help move the rack and boats, we would be most grateful.

If all goes to plan the work will be completed in 2 or 3 days, when we can put everything back where it is now.

National Success x 2

Congratulations to Crispin Read-Wilson on winning the French Flying Fifteen National Championships (He also won in 2016)
also
Congratulations on Sam Whaley who won the RS Aero 7 National Championships thus successfully defending the title that he held last year.

Chris (Christine) Rabson

Very sad to say that Chris passed away peacefully at home on 5th June after a long and courageous fight. A very few years ago Chris almost lived at the club helping out with catering, beach mastering and race recording and much more. Her other contributions to the wider Swanage community – the Arts Club, Carnival, choral singing and the RNLI will all be missed.

A private cremation is planned to take place on Tuesday 26th June followed by a service at St Mary’s Church Swanage at 12.30 and then a wake at the Sailng Club.  All Chris’s friends and family are warmly invited to the church and the club.
