The SSC Data Protection Policy 2018 is now available at Members/Club Files
We have just heard the very sad news that Jorg Anneheim died suddenly at Christmas following a short illness. A keen Dart 15 sailor, Jorg was happily running the club bar at the Christmas musical evening. Our thoughts go to Sue and family at this time.
1. Membership Renewals
Membership renewal forms will be sent out soon. We have to comply with the new data protection act that comes into force in May, and it is vital that all members make their data protection choices, sign and return the form to the Hon Membership Secretary. It remains a requirement to sign & return the terms and conditions form – and to pay the bill as well, of course!
Please contact the membership secretary about known or intended resignation – and changes of address: email@example.com.
2. House Duties
There are two types of house duty which involve either helping in the galley (kitchen) or bar and all members are required to do two per year. The club is open for lunch on Sunday throughout the whole year.
The first duties for 2018 are now set to volunteer wanted, and during February we will be publishing house duties up till the end of the sailing season. You will be able to choose duties during the self allocation period after which time the Dutyman system will auto allocate duties to members.
- Duties FAQ
- How to volunteer for a duty (needs you to login)
- Contact firstname.lastname@example.org
- Dutyman and the SSC website have different logins.
- Also please read the FAQ if you need to recover your Dutyman password.
- Any duties you volunteer for do count towards your two per year.
A reminder to members. The clubhouse is open every Sunday lunchtime throughout the year and delicious lunches are to be had for all members enjoying the best view in town.
We still need members to sign up for house duties, please see here. A house duty is either helping in the galley (kitchen) or bar.
The new year is nearly upon us and I have just published the January 2018 House Duties, they are all set to volunteer wanted. I’ll publish the next months’ duties, once January is booked up.
Q. How do I volunteer for a House Duty?
A. Visit this page, you’ll need to login.

We are much saddened by the news that Rosie Warren has recently passed away after a very long illness. Some of our members will remember Terry and Rosie zipping round the bay at an impressive speed in their Dart 18.
Rosie’s funeral is at 2pm on Monday 8th January 2018. The venue is Harbour View, Woodland Burial Ground, Poole BH16 6AN
On Saturday 16th December there will be a Christmas celebration at the club. Mike Etherington is organising the entertainment, which will be of its usual high standard, with assorted musical and humorous contributions from many members of the club and their families.
This is always a great evening and you should put it in your diary now. Newer members who attend Tuesday training – if you haven’t experienced a Sailing Club Christmas entertainment before, you should make sure to fill that gap in your experience this year. And if you have a talent for any kind of entertaining, musical or otherwise, please get in touch with Mike and offer your services.
The food will be on a ‘Bring and Share’ basis. Please bring something interesting and preferably seasonal to eat. Quiche, pate, cheese, sausages, mince pies and cake all come to mind, but the choice is yours. Just remember to bring at least as much as you intend to eat!
Helpers will be needed earlier in the day to arrange the chairs in the club room and set out a big table in the training room for the food. As I will be away, I would be grateful if someone can volunteer to supervise the practical aspects of the evening, leaving Mike free to sort out the performers.
Please note that the club is about to host its annual meeting for sailors. This has traditionally been named the “Active Sailors’ Meeting”. This meeting is your golden opportunity to have your say about the kind of sailing you want to enjoy and how to make it even better. It’s a great opportunity for sailors of any experience to come together – whether you are just beginning training, are an experienced series racer or prefer social sailing and cruising.
The meeting will be at the club at 11am on Sunday 26th November, just 24 hours after the AGM.
So please come along and get involved.
Howard Potter, SSC Vice Commodore
